The Wild Place

Project Information
Project:
Bear Wood at The Wild Place, Bristol
Client:
Roofing sub-contractor
Scope of project:
To optimise natural light and ventilation in the new multi-function visitor block
em.glaze Modular Rooflights

The Challenge

Wild Place Project is a family attraction that provides outdoor adventure, play and learning. The park has an emphasis on protecting threatened habitats and inspiring families to enjoy nature. Bear Wood, added to the park in July 2019, is a 7.5-acre exhibit which is home to European brown bears, wolverine, lynx and wolves. The exhibit features two multi-function visitor facilities providing education space, meeting rooms and an interactive ‘time chamber’ to delight visitors.

The Solution

Providing a clean, minimalistic finish inside and out, Em-Glaze modular flat glass rooflights were an ideal solution to deliver enhanced daylight levels and comfort ventilation. Manufactured with flat sealed glass units, each rooflight incorporated a fully welded thermally broken aluminium frame and cill detail. The warm-edge spacer bar and EPDM gasket also guarantee that the double-glazed units hold unrivalled insulation value over their lifetime. Non-fragile to CWCT Class 1 ensures the highest performance in safety is achieved.
The outstanding levels of performance ensured that all the requirements for thermal transmission, impact resistance and ventilation were met.

The Benefits

Not only do the rooflights ensure that workspace areas below benefit from high levels of natural daylight, which boosts occupants’ well-being, they also guarantee excellent thermal performance and give a smart, aesthetically pleasing finish to the buildings.

• Excellent thermal efficiency
• Optimised natural daylight throughout
• Reduced safety risk for persons on the roof
• Aesthetically pleasing finish
