Scottish Agricultural College

Project Information
Project:
Peter Wilson Building Edinburgh
Client:
Scottish Agricultural College
Scope of project:
Roof light replacement as part of a full roof refurbishment

The Challenge

The Scottish Agricultural College had been experiencing water ingress in the Peter Wilson Building for months. The roof membrane was old and in need of replacement, but the biggest challenge were the 31 rooflights. They were old, single-skin glass units with very poor insulation values; not only were they allowing water to leak in, they were also causing significant heat loss. More importantly, they were unsafe and fell short of current building regulations. The only sensible option was to completely replace the defective rooflights.

The Solution

After selecting a local roofing contractor experienced in flat roof single-ply refurbishment, a specialist supplier was also required to efficiently handle the roof light element of the project. With its wide product range and expert support team, Whitesales was appointed and the company quickly identified its high performing em.dome modular roof lights and em.vault continuous roof lights as the solution. After just one site survey to measure the varied dimensions and provide technical advice, Whitesales delivered quality roof lights, ensuring:

  • An increase in the building’s thermal efficiency
  • Increase in the amount of natural daylight entering the building
  • Reduced safety risk for persons on the roof
  • Aesthetically pleasing finish
  • A quick and easy bond to the new membrane
  • Industry leading quality which will stay watertight for many years to come

The Benefits

The new roof lights have completely transformed the building, both aesthetically and functionally. The occupants of the building are now enjoying the benefits of Whitesales’ high-performing products, feeling safe in the knowledge that for many years to come, their guaranteed roof lights will continue to do just what they need – letting the light enter from outside, whilst keeping the warmth in!
