The Challenge:

Elm Wood is an Ofsted outstanding-rated primary school guiding around 400 pupils through their first years in education. A new extension is being built; a teaching block housing dedicated music and ICT rooms, as well as a range of learning support spaces and a new entrance and reception.

Whitesales were asked to specify and install 16 rooflights to flood the interior with light and enhance the education experience: three over the kitchen, one access rooflight over the stairway and landing and a further twelve above the various teaching spaces.

Being a school building, specifying rooflights which could meet stringent acoustic and thermal values and feature privacy glazing to protect the children was vitally important.

 

The Solution:

We balanced performance against budget and specified a variety of Em-View double-glazed rooflights. By incorporating diffused glazing we maximised g-values, guaranteed excellent acoustic performance and provided the privacy essential for school security.
