Project InformationProject: School in Essex
Client: Essex County Council
Scope of project: Upgrade roof lighting
Products: Em-Glaze mono-pitched continuous rooflights
The school had several single skin mono-pitched rooflights across classrooms and toilet blocks. They all required upgrading in order to bring them up to date with current building regulations. All work had to be carried out within a short half term to ensure minimum disruption, whilst maintaining the original appearance.
Em-Glaze mono-pitched continuous rooflights were chosen and designed specifically for the job. The double glazed units are comprised of a 6mm toughened outer, 18mm argon filled cavity and 6.4mm laminated inner. The thermally enhanced aluminium glazing bars and flashing provide a thermal transmission of 1.4W/m²k, sound reduction rating of 34dB and a light transmission of 85%.
Using Em-Glaze continuous rooflights ensured that exactly the right sizes were manufactured and fitted. The installation was 'fast-tracked' so that the deadline was met and the glazing specification now all complies with all relevant building regulations. The rooflights now have a guarantee of 10 years and a life expectancy of 25 years and all units are recyclable.
